Gresham... (surname)
(Return to Neil's main page)
John (1613) and (wife's name unknown) Gresham/Gressam.... (copy) John was transported to VA on the 'Thomas' (ship). (John later married Mary ____ Payne Gresham.) John was involved in a land dispute between VA & MD over Kent Island... and apparently lost when (2nd Lord Baltimore) MD prevailed over VA. (Wikipedia article re William Claiborne & Kent Island dispute) (And here's a cool mention in a book online in Google's scholarly books.)
[Perhaps unrelated, the Greshams in the following link are interesting at least and are tightly clustered in the same area near Charles/Kent counties... including Kent Island mentioned above. Morever 'Colonel Smallwood' is also mentioned at the link.... freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~foulkrod/Addenda%20Naf-Neff%20History.htm -- note, for some reason the link won't function within PBwiki -- you'll have to cut/paste it into a browser and it'll work fine.]
[Nor do I know if this link really fits in... but again, everything is soooo close. Better keep track of it.]
[And here's another such link -- much of the storyline fits John Gresham, our ancestor, but because they relate him to the famous Greshams of England, it leaves doubt -- since other links above discount that (not) connectedness. Go figure.]
[And yet another mixed-message link... from 2006.]
[And this one.]
[Here's the Google-Search for "john gresham" & "1635"]
[And this may be among the MOST helpful in the future... "Subject: GRESHAMS OF CO SURREY
